Paul and Laura – Arnos Vale Wedding

This Arnos Vale wedding was one to remember for a few reasons. Firstly Arnos Vale has quickly become one of my favorite places to shoot weddings, it’s actually one of my favorite places to shoot full stop. The first time I got booked to shoot a wedding there (one which I can’t post here as it was a secret elopement) I wondered what it would be like – it’s an old cemetery close to the centre of Bristol. When I got there though I could clearly see why people want to get married here, it is a very unique and stunning place. The trees in The Underwood area provide a stunning backdrop for photographs and the light is always slightly diffused, it’s a photographers dream location to shoot. In addition to that you have really lovely staff that go over and above for the couples and are even super friendly to us photographers too! I have to say though that this Arnos Vale wedding was made extra special because of Laura and Paul. I received their booking quite last minute really, I am normally booking up a year in advance, but this one came through and I was available. They came up from Cornwall and were flying out from Bristol so they chose the location because of convenience. I was booked for just 2 hours, and I was asked to be a witness as well as there were no guests, just their two children, me and the wedding planner Buffy. It was all quite intimate. That could be a daunting thing, and sometimes smaller ceremonies can be harder to shoot, but this one was amazing. Paul and Laura are two of the loveliest people you can meet. Within a couple of minutes of meeting them you could feel the warmth and friendliness from them, they were just lovely people that made you feel good – it’s a mushy thing I know and difficult to put your finger on, but I’ve said it… right there – they were mint. They also looked completely stunning, with 2 small children and all. I was baffled.

Now I have 3 boys, they are teenagers now, but when they were the age of Paul and Laura’s children they were simply everywhere, like out of control little turbos. Some would say that is a result of upbringing – I disagree… My point is I would have been so stressed if they were at my wedding! I would not have looked good and all the photos would have been of me looking truly tired and trying not to look stressed! Laura and Paul took it all in their stride and just enjoyed having their children there. They just played and enjoyed what what going on. There were a few things there for them to play with and I think Buffy the wedding planner kept them occupied a bit too, it was all quite tranquil. Marsh mallows over the fire and a couple of little gifts for the children rounded off the time we had together.

I did reflect on why my kids were so hyper at that age….hmmm

Anyway, here’s a selection of images from Laura and Paul’s Arnos Vale wedding.
