I’m married to Lillian and have 3 teenage boys. I’ve just turned 40 and it feels ok. I like food and think about it quite a lot. I also make sure I excercise so I can keep enjoying food without struggling to fit into my camera strap! I spend a lot of time hanging out with friends and family, that's the best thing in the world.
We live in Bristol, where I grew up, but met Lillian in Norway where she's from. I was playing drums at the time, trying to be an international rock star… The rock star bit didn’t work out but in trying I met Lillian, which is better than being a rock star so I’m happy.
Sure there’s a technical bit to it too, but an image is supposed to engage you somehow, if it doesn’t you move on. Whenever I’m doing wedding photography, or even in the studio, I’m trying to create something that will engage the person looking at the images. When I deliver that I feel I have delivered something of real worth to my clients, it makes me feel good.
Becoming a Bristol wedding photographer came as a bit of a surprise in some ways. I never thought I would be a wedding photographer years ago so I didn’t pursue it. It wasn’t until I met with a wedding photographer friend of mine back in 2008 that I thought it might be a good thing for me. I remember looking at some of his work and thinking how much fun it looked to photograph a wedding. I did some simple advertising, booked a wedding and from then on was totally hooked! Wedding photography brings together all the things I love about photography. In fact it's the photography I do the most.
Now this can be tricky...
Of course I would love you to choose me, and if I'm available on your date then I'll have a little skip and possibly fist pump the air. If you are getting married abroad I will possibly break out into a full dance.
Your wedding photographer is going to be there all day, documenting one of the most important days of your life - it just needs to be a good fit. If you are looking for some one to get you to do loads of awkward poses and stuff like that then maybe I'm not your guy. If you are looking for someone to take images of your day that you will capture the moments, the emotion and the story of the day then I might be the wedding photographer for you.
I like to be unobtrusive and blend in like a guest. I'm not into being the centre of attention in any way. Even the equipment I use reflects that; no huge lenses that scream 'wedding photographer', you know, the kind of equipment that makes everyone start posing as soon as you are nearby.
Have a good look at my images and check out the blog pages, even the personal stuff, I like to approach everything I do in a similar way, (unless i'm doing product photography... that's different).
